MANILA, Philippines – The National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) will release the initial results of the midterm elections at 10 am on Tuesday, May 14. The group made the announcement after it convened on Monday evening, May 13, just an hour before the 7pm closing of polling centers nationwide.
“Now, the system of canvassing is ready for transmission results so bukas na ‘yan. Pero we don’t expect to be receiving much of the results in the next two hours so we decided to adjourn,” said Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Sixto Brillantes, Jr.
“By that time, a substantial number of electronic results shall have been received by the system.”
The NBOC, comprised of the Comelec en banc, convened at around 6 p.m. at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City. The NBOC, along with reporters and representatives of candidates, were on hand for the inspection of the consolidation and canvassing system (CCS) box.
The NBOC will name winning senators and party-list candidates based on central server tallies. Brillantes said that his agency is looking to proclaim all winning national candidates over the next 2 days.
“On Wednesday, May 15, about 7 p.m., that should be the culmination of this political exercise,” he said.
According to election watchdog Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), former MTRCB head Grace Poe, a senatorial candidate running under Team PNoy, is leading early in the polls.
The rest of the candidates in the top 12 include Loren Legarda, Nancy Binay, Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Bam Aquino, Cynthia VIllar, Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, Alan Peter Cayetano, Cynthia VIllar, Sonny Angara, Sonny Trillanes, Ramon “Jun” Magsaysay, Jr., and Migz Zubiri.
The unofficial tally is based on 30 out of 78,166 clustered precincts. – Rappler.com
